Sorry, brush...

Buying art materials is like a vacation for me. I turn out happy, relaxed, and poverty-stricken. But hey, I've got beaaauuuuutiful brushes that I almost don't want to use or even take out of their packaging.

Uuuntil I need to use them.

But that's before my toddler finds it, tearing out the specially-designed packaging that makes them more enticing. And before she nibbles on them bristles and handles, then strategically uses them on dirty surfaces. Yep, dirt is a requirement.

Anyway, as I've said, I love buying brushes. But for the murals I was scheduled to work on, my husband did the shopping. An at a DIY, too, so who am I to deny him of that opportunity?

Fortunately, he got really awesome brushes! The strands shimmered when they get hit with just enough light. The bristles come in different shades, like they just stepped out of the salon donning impeccable highlights. The handles are all so matte but smooth, not a scratch in sight!

Yes, I am still talking about brushes I am about to use on a concrete wall.

ON A CONCRETE WALL!

Tragic, but magic has to happen.

Brand new paintbrush
Isn't she gorgeous?!?!?!

Then I found myself in front of a concrete wall. THE concrete wall, that's right. I take out my brush, removed its packaging ever so carefully.

"It's alright, sweet brush. It's gonna hurt a little but everything's gonna ba aaaalright."

I dipped it in paint, made my first lines on the wall. Making rough lines to help guide me later. Putting the dark lines and blending them in with the light ones. Creating shadows. Adjusting lines.

Dip.

Brushstroke.

Blend.

My hand dancing with the brush, holding it tightly but gently, making magic.

And voila!!!

Used and frayed paintbrush
OOoohhh trendy!

I saw Jaime Lee Curtis staring back at me.

I saw the younger, silver-haired Billie Eilish, sporting a spiky haircut.

I saw a hardworking paintbrush that sacrificed its highlights for my project.

I'm being overly dramatic. This should be back to its glorious state after a good wash. If not, then I could still use it for rough, grungy brushstrokes.

Two murals done.

Several more paintbrushes to dance with.
